Wisdom From a Master
I was fortunate enough to take a creative writing class from James Lee Burke when he taught at Wichita State University, and his encouragement was invaluable in letting me know I had actual writing talent instead of simply an annoying hubris.
I consider him a literary giant – he’s won two Edgar Awards (the Pulitzer of mystery writing), and he’s idolized by fellow writers for his elegant prose and memorable characters. I’m sharing a recent interview he did in conjunction with his latest release because his writing process mirrors what my experience with FALLEN TREES was like – and how I, as a writer, feel like I am simply recording what is being given to me by another force.
Enjoy.
